“French writer Colette visited Château Thivin in 1947 during the harvest, too early to taste the wine from that famous vintage. In Thivin’s courtyard she found the huge wisteria remarkable, ‘thick like a python’s torso,’ and she watched as the harvesters returned to the domaine at the end of the day. ‘All honor to all who labor,’ she wrote. ‘Downstairs forty harvesters had the best table: omelets, veal, chicken, pork, all washed down with this wine whose pure, blood-red color glistened like beautiful rubies in the light.’”
